Daniel Rardon

Senior Director, Research & Development

With over 29 years of industrial experience in materials and coatings development, Dr. Daniel Rardon leads SGI’s Research & Development team responsible for new product development, technical service, and customer and manufacturing support, managing the work of SGI’s Technical Center. In his role, he optimized efficiencies in the lab and implemented a new product development process. He and his team were responsible for SGI’s new reflective granule lines, the richest reflective shingle products available. More recently, he led efforts to develop a new granule post-treatment to solve temporary asphalt staining on new shingle installations.

Prior to SGI, Dr. Rardon managed teams focused on innovation and emerging technologies at PPG industries and Valspar, driving commercial launches of compliant and BPA epoxy-free coating, extrusion-applied coating films, and oxygen and carbon dioxide barrier materials.

Dr. Rardon holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Miami University and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from University of Cincinnati, as well as an Executive MBA Essentials certificate from Katz Business School at the University of Pittsburgh. He has served on or led four industrial advisory boards at the U.S. DOE and Penn State University; was Director and Chairman on the Board of Directors of the PA NanoMaterials Commercialization Center; and is a voting member of the Technical Committee of the Cool Roof Rating Council. He holds more than 40 U.S. patents and is credited with numerous publications.
