Matthew McClure leads EHS regulatory compliance efforts, as well as, capital, process engineering, long-term mine planning, strategy, and permitting. With time spent in the U.S. coal industry and almost 20 years’ experience in regulatory compliance and permitting, he has significant knowledge in federal and state permitting, water treatment, reclamation, and strategy for mine success. McClure fundamentally changed how SGI interacts with key stakeholders such as regulatory agencies and communities that neighbor facilities. He also has led efforts to develop processes that support SGI’s environmental and safety priorities to improve performance and compliance while reducing risk and liability.
Prior to SGI, McClure worked for a number of public companies in the coal industry, including Patriot Coal, Peabody Energy, and Alpha Natural Resources.
McClure holds multiple certifications in surface mining, wastewater treatment, impoundment and compliance inspection from state and federal agencies, as well as a Certificate in Financial Analysis (For Nonfinancial Managers) from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He graduated cum laude from the University of Charleston with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Environmental Science, and minors in Chemistry and Organizational Leadership.
